David White's fast-paced look at inner-city high school basketball was a definite page-turner. The book doesn't wallow in the negative aspects of the inner-city and instead focuses on hard work, values, and faith. Chock full of on-the-court strategies and game plays, A Man of Character is also a clean book that celebrates healthy relationships, concepts that modern literature is often lacking. You don't have to be a sports fan to appreciate its lessons.
