Review by Jean Marie

Fast paced, like being inside a sideline huddle, September 13, 2009 I thoroughly enjoyed 'A Man of Character' by David White. I found the book to be a fast paced tale that allowed me an inside ear to the sideline huddle and coach's playbook. Throughout the book I kept saying, 'so that is what goes on with the team during a game!' While not only a great sportswriter, David White brought to life the heart and soul of his main character, John Hawkins Jr. White balanced the conflict of a man's interior vulnerability and his exterior toughness perfectly as the story progressed. The character and heart of Coach Hawkins are unlifting and inspirational qualities that everyone working with youths can exemplify. Well done!
