Review by J. Cox

Uplifting Story, August 10, 2009 David White's A Man of Character is a book about so much more than a high school basketball team in inner city Los Angeles. It chronicles the story of an incredible coach, John Hawkins, who has the ability to bring out the best in his team, inspite of all of the distractions around them. David does a great job of giving the reader so much insight in to the each of the players, coaches, friends and family members of Hawkins. While sports fans are sure to love this book, it really has something for everyone. Not only is it inspirational, but it also reveals how this strong man deals with heartache over the loss of a family member, as well as an ongoing relationship with the love of his life. This is one of the best books I've read in a long time.
