Texas Rangers manager admitted to using cocaine last year after testing positive for it during the season. I would excuse a mistake from a college kid or a young professional ballplayer for drinking or smoking pot, but this drug is illegal and extremely dangerous. The most unconscionable thing is he's a 57-year old man, and doing this at that age is really bad and very irresponsible. Most of all it's illegal. This guy is supposed to set the tone for the team. He already has a guy on his team, Josh Hamilton, who has demons of his own from drug and alcohol that have almost ruined his promising career. He is a talented player who is trying to self-destruct. If he is trying to rehabilitate himself and become a great ballplayer, what kind of example is this?
Young athletes make mistakes. I don't condone those mistakes by any means. They should do the right thing. They should do the right thing because it's the right thing to do.
Washington's behavior is inexcusable. It's immature, reckless and against the law. People die from using cocaine. Nobody was perfect in college or in their 20's and even their 30's, but there comes a point in life where you grow up and you follow the law. Fifty seven and doing cocaine? That's unbelievable.
Ron Washington should be fired. He needs to pay the penance for his crime. He's too old to be snorting cocaine. You should never do it anyway but 57? Give me a break. Looks like the Rangers are welcoming him back with open arms. That's almost as bad. The Rangers need to show a little integrity and get rid of him.
