I respect Bill Belichick immensely as a coach. Three Super Bowl victories has cemented his legacy as one of the greatest NFL coaches of all time. There may be more championships ahead, too. I don't disagree with his decision to play his starters yesterday against the Houston Texans. I respect it. It may hurt him in the playoffs losing arguably his best player on the team, Wes Welker, to a major knee injury. But the decision to go for the win is impressive to me.
I don't fault Jim Caldwell of the Indianapolis Colts for resting his starters either. It remains to be seen if Peyton and company, virtually having three weeks off from playing before their first playoff game, will not perform up to their potential.
If I had to coach, I'd be more like Belichick and play my starters.
It remains to be seen which philosophy will win out. The playoffs are here. Now it gets fun.
