Vandy blows out UT; 'Bama falls at Lexington, AU Tonight

The Commodores put on a clinic last night as Jeff Taylor and Jermaine "Dollah" Beal scored 26 and 20 points respectively to lift Vandy over their hated rival, Tennessee, 90-71. The 'Dores got out of the blocks quickly building a 22-6 lead. and led 44-27 at halftime. Taylor scored 16 in the first half. Taylor sank four-of-five shots and eight-of-eight free throws.  UT cut the lead to 10, 46-36 with 17 minutes left, but Vanderbilt went on a tear after they led 49-38. They went on a 17-1 run and put the game out of reach after they led 66-39. They cruised from there.

The 'Dores were 37-of-43 from the line (86%) for the game. Taylor was 12-of-12, Beal was seven-of-eight and Brad Tinsley was six-of-six. A.J. Ogilivy scored 11 points and had six boards, and yes, Tate, he is 2-0 vs Chism this year. Andre Walker had eight points and nine boards in another solid outing. The 'Dores outrebounded UT, 40-31.Festus Ezeli, a 40-something % free throw shooter, was even three-of-four.

The 'Dores were missing John Jenkins, who was in the hospital with the flu. His status is unknown for Sat's game against LSU at 12:30 on SEC Network.

UT was led by J.P. Prince who had 19 and six boards. Wayne Chism added 16 and seven boards.

Vandy moved to 18-5 overall and 7-2 in SEC play, a half game behind Kentucky. The Wildcats come to Nashville Feb.20 at 5 p.m. on ESPN. I am going and will give a detailed report on that one. Should be a classic, but the 'Dores have some work to do before that.LSU at home 12:30 on SEC Network, and at Ole Miss next Thurs. 6 p.m. on ESPNU. Kentucky plays UT, Sat., and is at MS. State on Tuesday at 8 p.m. on ESPN. You kind of worry about fresh legs for next Sat's game with Ky, but it's the SEC and you've got to be tough. Even bigger, it's UK.

UT (18-5. 6-3) goes to Lexington on Sat. Night at 8 p.m.(CT) to face the No.2 Wildcats on ESPN.

Kentucky 66, 'Bama 55

John Wall with 22 points and 10 boards; the legend keeps growing. DeMarcus Cousins with 16 and 13, his seventh straight double-double. 'Bama shot 33% from the floor and four-of-14 from trifecta (28.6%). Tony Mitchell did play well though. He had 13 points and seven boards. JaMychal Green had 11 and six and Senario Hillman added 10 points.

'Bama (13-11, 3-7) plays at home versus a hot Arkansas team at 3 p.m. on SEC Network. Arkansas (5-3, 12-11) has won four in a row including a win at home over Ms State and wins on the road at Ole Miss (qualty) and at Georgia, which is becoming a pretty decent basketball team. Test for the Tide.

AU (2-6, 11-12) faces a Georgia team (2-6, 11-12) coming off a big home victory over Vandy, 72-58. They have lost many close games this year and they are talented both outside and underneath. Trey Thompkins leads UGA with 17.5 ppg. Outstanding guard Travis Leslie averages 14.3.
