They shot the ball a lot better in the second half (55.6%, 10-of-18), but their performance in the first half was pathetic. They shot 36% in the first half. They just aren't consistent. Beat Southern Miss 59-54 to move to 20-5, 8-3. Southern Miss fell to 15-10, 5-6. Elijah Millsap has lost his shooting touch. He scored 13 but was four-of-nine from the charity stripe. He was over a 70% free throw shooter for a while and now he's just lost it. Howard Crawford led the way with 17 points. Crawford pulled down five boards.
Southern Miss shot 33% in the first half and 47% in the second half. They're known for being a terrible shooting team. They've never shot the ball well.
Just another boring effort by the Blazers.
Games left against Houston (home), at Central Florida, home vs. Tulane, home vs. Memphis and at UTEP.
They need to win all five of those games and maybe win the tourney to make it; at least make it to the finals of the tourney.
I just don't think they're good enough offensively to do that. Their defense is pretty good most of the time, but has fallen off lately. Southern Miss is no gauge on UAB's defense because Southern Miss can't shoot.
This team was put together at the last minute before the fall and they played so well in Dec and some of January, but they've come back to Earth. A bid to the tourney would be an upset.
Joltin was exactly right. They just can't shoot the ball.
