North Carolina looks like an early favorite for the Final Four. They defeated a strong Michigan State team last night, albeit in Chapel Hill, 89-82. They've got awesome big men in 6-10 Ed Davis and 6-9 Deon Thompson, both tremendous finishers around the rim, and tough on the boards. Their point guard, Larry Drew II, son of a former NBA great for the Atlanta Hawks, is very solid if not spectacular–he can both distribute and shoot, and plays solid defense. The bench is solid with some outstanding freshmen in John Henson and David Wear among others. Marcus Ginyard is a solid all around player and a leader on the floor at a small forward.
The Tar Heels can always play offense and they've shown they can play some pretty good D too most of the time. They just seem to outscore you mostly though, and that has worked under Roy Williams as they have won two national championships under Williams in 2005 and 2009.
They're my early contender for the Final Four in Indianapolis on April 3, 2010.
