Some good games last night

Duke 81, Miami 74 Played at Miami. Duke is a very fine basketball team. They were 13-of-29 from three-point range. That's excellent (44.8%). They were also 18-of-22 from free throw line.

They just hustle. They are also a fluid team, they pass well, dribble well and, of course, can stroke it. Kyle Singler (22 points, four-of-seven 3-pters), Nolan Smith (21 points, five-of-10 from 3-pter) and Jon Scheyer (15 points) are studs.

This is an excellent basketball team. They are tougher inside than Duke teams of recent years and they play with a ton of heart and can shoot. Play good enough defense, too. Coach K is an excellent teacher and motivator. They're playing well.

No.6 Duke moved to 22-4, and 10-2 ACC.

In the Big East:

Louisville 91, Notre Dame 89 2 OTs

Incredible game. Notre Dame played with so much heart and played without the leading scorer in the conference, Luke Harangody, who was out with a bone bruise on his knee.

You've got to give Lville credit, too. They came off a huge victory at Syracuse on Sunday and gutted it out. Samardo Samuels had 36 and was 16-of-19 from the free throw line. He was 10-of-19 from the field. Tim Abromaitis had 29 for ND. Ben Hansbrough, Tyler Hansbrough's little brother who transferred from Mississippi State, had 21 for Notre Dame.

Louisville moved to 17-9 overall and 8-5 in the Big East. This was a victory they had to have for their NCAA tourney hopes. Notre Dame, a very good team that may not make the tourney, dropped to 17-10 and 6-8 in conference.

Another key game was Purdue's 60-57 victory over Ohio State at Columbus. Purdue moved to 22-3 overall and 10-3 in the Big Ten, one game behind Michigan State in the standings. This was Purdue's first win at Columbus since 1998 and Ohio State's first home loss of the season.

No.4 Purdue was leading by three when they took a shot and missed. Ohio State rebounded the ball with 16 seconds left and took it down, got a three-point look at the end, but missed.

No.12 Ohio State dropped to 20-7, 10-4.

Both nice teams that play that grind it out Big Ten ball. There are four very good leagues this year: Big East, Big Ten, Big 12 and ACC. SEC not as good, but may have the best team in the country in Kentucky. Vandy has a good team, too.
