Other games last night

Kansas moved to 33-2 against Kansas State since the inception of the Big 12 with an 82-65 victory. Kansas moved to 28-2 and 14-1 and won their sixth straight Big 12 title. K-State dropped to 24-5 and 11-4. Kansas is looking in good shape right now for a number one seed in the NCAA tourney unless by some chance they lose early in their conference tourney. They still might get it, probably so. Sheron Collins scored 17 but was only one-of-seven from three point range. Kansas can struggle shooting the ball. No.23 Maryland (22-7, 12-3) defeated No.4 Duke (25-5, 12-3), 79-72. The teams are tied for the ACC lead with one game left. Maryland travels to Virginia Saturday and Duke plays at home against UNC Saturday Night at 8 on ESPN. Greivis Vasquez scored 20 including a clutch one with 37 seconds left to help the Terps win their sixth straight. Vasquez is averaging 25 points during Maryland's six game winning streak. Their last loss was to Duke on Feb. 13 by 21.

Notre Dame 58, UConn 50. The Fighting Irish kept their tourney hopes alive with the victory. They are playing great ball without the second leading scorer in the country, Luke Harangody, who is out indefinitely. Could be back for Big East tourney. The Irish moved to 20-10 and 9-8 in conference with a game at Marquette Saturday to finish off the regular season.

I like the way this team has battled. They play a lot like Duke, and it figures since Mike Brey is a Coach K disciple. I like this team a lot. It's down to the wire for the Irish, but I like their resume, particularly recently beating Pitt, Gtown on the road and now UConn, a team that has struggled but is very talented. They did lose to St.John's, Seton Hall and Louisville fairly recently and that hurts. But I like the grit of this team. If they win Sat at Marquette they will make a good case for themselves. UConn is not looking good at 17-13 and 7-10. That loss to Lousville at home on Sunday really stung.

No.10 New Mexico won the outright Mountain West title with a 73-66 victory over TCU. This will be a dangerous team come tournament time. Defeated a good Brigham Young team on Saturday at BYU. Moved to 14-2 and 28-3. Think this could be a surprise team of the tourney and pull some upsets. They should be seeded pretty highly  though. They're for real. Haven't seen Darington Hobson, but have heard he's special. Had 20 points and 14 boards last night. Some say he's one of the best players in the country. Looking forward to watching him play this month.
