This freshman, John Wall, is unbelievable. Beat UConn single handedly as UK came back from a six point halftime deficit to win 64-61. Wall had 25 and the game winning basket and one with less than 40 seconds left and the Cats down 61-60. Kentucky moved to 9-0 and is ranked fourth in the country. The game was played at Madison Square Garden and was part of the BIg East-SEC Challenge. No.10 Florida (8-0) plays No.6 Syracuse (8-0) tonight at 8 on ESPN. The game is in St. Petersburg giving the Gators a home court advantage pretty much. Should be another classic. Looking forward to seeing Fl play. After they beat Florida State, 68-52, a tournament team, and Michigan State, 77-74, a definite tourney team, they sound for real. Syracuse is Syracuse. Always has an opportunity to reach Final Four.
Wall was back at the Garden, where he proved not only that he was worth the wait, but that he is unequivocally the biggest star in college basketball. This time the drama was on the floor, where his fourth-ranked Wildcats trailed 14th-ranked UConn 61-60 with just under 40 seconds left. Wall already had 22 points to his name when he took a handoff from teammateDarius Miller just above the free-throw line, blew past Huskies defender Stanley Robinsonon on a left-handed drive, slammed intoAlex Oriakhiin mid-air under the rim, and found a way to kiss the ball off the glass for a game-winning and-one layup before falling to the floor. Wall scored 12 of Kentucky's final 15 points to finish with 25, hitting all four of his free throw attempts and his lone three-point try. He rallied the now 9-0 Wildcats back from a six-point halftime deficit to win 64-61, and inspired UConn coachJim Calhounto say, "He's no freshman. He's a big-time player. I think if any guy dominated the game, he won the game."
