Blazers, Tide, AU bball

UAB had a huge 64-47 victory over 25th ranked Cincinnati last night. Elijah Millsap scored 22 points and pulled down 15 boards, his fifth double-double of the season. Millsap's older brother, Paul, plays for the Utah Jazz in the NBA, and Millsap looks like he could get there, too. He's a junior. Howard Crawford added 14 and George Drake chipped in 10. UAB moved to 9-1 and looks for real.UAB now has won 30 consecutive games against non-conference opponents at home.UAB held Cincy to 32 percent shooting for the night. Made some 3's (5-21), but outrebounded Cincy, 47-34. Jamaar Sanders added 11 boards. 

Next game against South Alabama Saturday Night in Mobile at 5:30 on CSS. Tough game in Mobile. USA (8-3) has already beaten Arkansas this season.

No.21  Butler (AP) comes to Bartow Arena for a 7 p.m. game next Tuesday. No TV. Butler (7-3)  has a win over Ohio State (74-66) and tough losses to Clemson (70-69) and Georgetown (72-65). All three are ranked and very good teams. Butler is typical Butler; they hustle and they can really shoot when they're on. Homewood's Ronald Nored is Butler's starting point guard.

The Blazers aren't deep, but they play so hard. Like this team a lot. If they can stay healthy, could make tourney. Two tough games coming up though.

 

'Bama beat Samford last night, 60-45. Mikhail Torrance scored 15 and had seven assists. JaMychal Green added 14. Alabama (7-3) plays 17th ranked (AP) Kansas State Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in Mobile. The game will be televised by CSS.

AU (5-4)  plays Florida State tonight in Tallahassee. Tip off is at 6 p.m. CST. Game will be televised by the Sun Network. If you have DirecTV or Charter Deluxe Cable you may be able to watch it. Tough game for AU. Florida State  (10-2) beat Alabama earlier this season, 60-51 at FSU.
