Great win at Columbia over South Carolina, 79-70. South Carolina led 31-17 at the 8:33 mark of the first half, but 'Bama didn't quit. With JaMychal Green suspended and Senario Hillman coming back from suspension, the Tide played inspired basketball. Anthony Grant called it "a great character win for our basketball team." It was.
Junior guard Charvez Davis drilled a three-pointer with 5:51 left in the game to put the Tide ahead for the first time, 62-59. Alabama went on a 9-2 run to close out the game.
Mikhail Torrance and Justin Knox each had 17 to lead 'Bama. Knox played a great game, also pulling down seven boards. Chris Hines had seven points and 14 boards for the Tide. Tony Mitchell finished with 13 and Hillman added 12. The Tide outrebounded USC, 49-26.
Alabama shot 45 percent for the game and was seven-of-17 from trifecta. Torrance was six-of-six from the charity stripe many of them late in the game. He showed a lot of senior leadership. And the young players, Mitchell, Hines and Davis performed.
Maybe the Tide can grab some momentum heading into the SEC tourney. They have Auburn Saturday at home at 12:30 on the SEC Network- WTTO. Channel 9 on Mountain Brook Cable.
