'Bama gets a much needed victory over quality opponent

Alabama 62, No.23 (AP) Mississippi State 57 Free throw shooting seems to be a lost art at times, but Alabama took advantage of their opportunities yesterday against Ms. State. Anthony Brock and JaMychal Green both went two-for-two from the line in the final 18 seconds to seal the win for the Tide. They were 12-of-18 overall, but made them when they counted.

'Bama moved to 2-3 in the SEC and 12-7 overall. State dropped to 3-1 and 15-4.

Mikhail Torrance led 'Bama with 20 points and five assists. He was six-of-13 from the field, four-of-four from the line and four-of-eight from trifecta range.  Green added 18 points and nine boards. He also added three blocks. Brock scored eight points, but added five assists. Senario Hillman added nine boards. The Tide actually outrebounded the Bulldogs 43-42. The Tide also had 16 assists in the game. State had seven.

Mississippi State helped the Tide as they shot two-of-18 from three point range, 11 percent. Barry Stewart led State with 13 points. Ravern Johnson and Dee Bost added 10. Jarvis Varnado had nine points, eight rebounds and four blocks, but fouled out and looked exhausted some of the time in the second half.

Tide showed it could grind one out against a good team.
