Alabama, UAB bball

I was just as impressed with Alabama's 87-74 loss to Kansas State as I was UAB's 72-54 win over South Alabama.  I know, no one's into moral victories, but this K-State team is the real deal; top 10, maybe top 5 material. They're going to give Big 12 powerhouses Kansas and Texas all they can handle. Kansas is No.1 and Texas is No.2 in the country.

The thing was, Alabama was down by 18 with 15 minutes left in the second half and never gave up. After a Mikhail Torrance  three and  two free throws cut the lead to eight, Alabama stole the ball back and looked to have a fast break, but JaMychael Green threw the ball away. 'Bama could not get any closer.

But Alabama played with so much heart in that game. They just kept fighting all the way to the end of the game. Was really impressed with the effort. They were just outmanned in this one, but I think the season could be OK. A tourney bid is not out of the question. The SEC West isn't that great. Ole Miss is good, but everyone else is about the same. Bama is a good basketball team. I'm not going to predict a tourney bid, but it's not out of the question. Torrance is terrific.

Blazers had another solid outing, this time with senior George Drake leading the way with 21 points–including four-of-eight from three point range. He's a stud athlete, and if he could get his shot going, he could help a lot.

Big one for the Blazers Tuesday Night as they face No.17 Butler at Bartow at 7 p.m. Need a big crowd out there.

Bama plays Mercer at home on Wed. at seven. Mercer is 4-5.

Auburn plays Sam Houston State (6-3) today at one at home.
